ABOUT THE POSITION
Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking (1) full-time tenure Vocational Nursing - Geriatric/Generalist commencing with the fall 2022 semester. The primary teaching assignment is ten (10) months and involves instruction in theory, skills laboratory as well as clinical practice, with emphasis on general nursing practice to include medical/surgical nursing and geriatric nursing. This assignment also includes curriculum and program development, participation in department, division, college committees, and participatory governance activities assuming leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole; collaboration across disciplines and the leveraging of student support resources; and participation in ongoing professional development. The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, on-line or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Faculty positions offer the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

  • Meet equivalent qualifications established by the District OR
  • Meet the qualifications set by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT), whichever is higher, AND
  • Evidence of demonstrated cultural competency and enthusiasm in serving the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial, and cultural backgrounds of community college student populations, including students with differing abilities (physical and/or learning), as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.
Desirable Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in or completion of a Master's of Nursing degree program.
  • Educational and/or instructional preparation in medical/surgical nursing.
  • Evidence of an ability to address the instructional needs of with students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of academic skills student population taking a variety of nursing courses.
  • Evidence of the ability to use a variety of teaching, strategies that encourage retention while successfully challenging diverse student populations.
  • Evidence of participation in student success initiatives in post-secondary setting.
