The Project Coordinator – Forest Health performs a variety of complex and highly responsible administrative and program support activities for select programs, such as California Conservation Corps Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative (IEPI), Logging & Forest Workers Apprenticeship, etc. The Project Coordinator performs budgetary, organizational, supervisory, problem solving, outreach, recruitment activities, and decision-making tasks under the direction of the Senior Project Coordinator. Employees in this position receive minimal supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This is an administrative, overtime exempt position.

CLASSIFICATION: Range 15 on the Administrative Confidential Salary Schedule, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work assignment hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00p.m., Monday through Friday.

SUPERVISOR: Senior Project Coordinator – Forest Health or designee

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability
Essential Functions:

  • Administers the day-to-day activities and operations of select programs; assists in preparation of operational and statistical reports.
  • Represents the District in a variety of meetings in support of select programs as outline above.
  • Resolves issues effectively, provides accurate reports, and ensures program objectives and policies are properly implemented.
  • Provides information regarding Career Technical Education (CTE) programs and pathways to potential and new students.
  • Promotes appropriate program(s) as assigned; identifies and recruits potential participants; develops brochures, fliers, and other promotional materials; makes presentations to appropriate groups.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed calendar of events, due dates, and schedules as they relate to assigned program(s) and services to ensure proper tasks and activities occur as scheduled.
  • Monitors individual student interest and enrollment progress, identifies barriers to success, and refers students to other college and community support services as appropriate.
  • Monitors and controls expenditures in line with established program budgets; compiles, analyzes, prepares, and submits progress reports; and prepares and submits required state and institutional fiscal and accounting records.
  • Serves as a liaison with California Conservation Corps, external stakeholders and other community agencies.
  • Compiles, maintains, and reviews computerized files and records.
  • Performs related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.
Knowledge of:
  • CTE programs and pathways with a focus on fire, forestry, natural resources, and heavy equipment logging operations programs.
  • Budget implementation and management procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective analytic, interpersonal, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • General needs of low-income, educationally disadvantaged, at-risk, and minority students.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy with stakeholders from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Principles of administration, leadership, and supervision, including planning, organizing, assigning and reviewing work, performance standards, evaluation, discipline, and employee selection and development.
  • Standard computer operation and applicable software programs including database and word processing applications.
  • Diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Ability to:
  • Learn and implement District policies and procedures, California Education Code regulation, state and federal laws and apply sound judgement in a variety of procedural situations.
  • Administer the day-to-day activities and operations of the program.
  • Effectively relate to a diverse student population that includes a wide range of ages, socioeconomic status, cultural affiliations, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Analyze problems, determine effective solutions, and take independent action for successful results.
  • Analyze data and prepare comprehensive written and oral reports for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Learn from errors, determine appropriate corrective action, and prevent repeated occurrences.
  • Exercise tact, diplomacy, and good judgement in all stakeholder interactions.

Experience/Education
Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent education
Experience Required:
  • Two years related work experience
  • Demonstrated sensitivity toward and effective cooperation with diverse stakeholder communities.
Higher education experience is desirable.

New Administrative Appointments will be placed at the step 1 on the Administrative Salary Schedule and will graduate to the next step on July 1st of the following year if they have rendered 6 months of satisfactory service, with subsequent steps annually thereafter to a maximum fifth step.

Salary placement would only be negotiable if the candidate held the same position with another community college and step 2 or 3 would be the maximum considered depending on the number of years of service.
