The Director of Nursing Education upholds the College's values of Learning, Integrity, Quality, Service, Accountability, and Diversity. This position provides academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership for the Associate Degree Program in Nursing in accordance with the College's Strategic Plan and assists the Dean in the various functions and tasks through effective daily administration of Division policies and procedures. The Director of Nursing Education represents the nursing department and provides leadership to the faculty in matters of curriculum development, assessment, nursing program evaluation and review. The Director of Nursing Education works with the Dean of the Biological and Sciences Division to ensure the operation of the Nursing Department is in compliance with college policies and procedures, as well as all local, state, and federal guidelines and statutes.

The Director of Nursing Education is the Nurse Administrator with the authority and responsibilities defined by the Accreditation Commission for Nursing Education (ACEN) and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) to direct the nursing program/curriculum and End-of-Program Student Learning Outcomes (EOPSLOs).

The Director of Nursing Education position is a 52 week per year administrative position. The Director is expected to be available for consultation as needed during periods of recess from classes and for any other extended absences from campus (e.g. by telephone, texting, or email).

Required Qualifications:
1. Masters degree or higher with a major in nursing or nursing education.
2. Two (2) years in clinical nursing practice
3. Two (2) years experience as an instructor in a pre-licensure or higher nursing education program
4. Current unencumbered Illinois RN license or eligibility for licensure in the State of Illinois.
5. Seven (7) years of related work experience with three (3) years supervisory experience.
5. Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Desired Qualifications:
1. NLN Certification as a Certified Nurse Educator
2. Doctorate in Nursing, Nursing Education, or other related healthcare field.
3. Demonstrated leadership experience in a higher education setting. Experience as an administrator a plus.
4. Bi-lingual proficiency

Summary of Essential Functions:

Strategic Leadership and Planning (50%)

1. Develop and maintain relationships between Health Science Program faculty and staff, other CLC
departments and administration, and internal and external community stakeholders.
2. Develop and maintain communication and relationships with 4 year colleges/universities to
facilitate seamless academic progression toward advanced degrees in nursing.
3. Develop and maintain relationships with local, state, regional, and national agencies.
4. Serve as a member of college/district committees as appropriate.
5. Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
6. Develop, implement, and monitor annual operating budget of the nursing department, including the review of departmental needs for staffing, furniture, capital equipment, technology, and instructional supplies and make recommendations to the Dean.
7. Prepare budget recommendations and administers the budget for the nursing program.

Operation Management and Personnel Supervision (50%)

8. Prepare and submit reports to state and federal agencies.
9. Counsel and guide students relative to nursing career goals.
10. Direct the meetings and activities of the Nursing Program Advisory Committee.
11. Direct the ongoing process of nursing curriculum development and evaluation.
12. Ensure compliance is maintained with the selective admission criteria for the nursing program.
13. Manage, monitor, and implement processes for the evaluation of full time (non-tenured) faculty, adjunct faculty and other department staff.
14. Provide leadership for faculty and staff.

5. Complies with all college, state, and federal rules, regulations, and policies including but not limited to health and safety policies, the college sexual harassment policy, administrative rules, civil rights laws, etc.
6. Demonstrates knowledge about best practices in teaching and learning.
7. Works effectively with collective bargaining units.


1. Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for
sitting for prolonged periods of time, extensive use of computer keyboard.
2. Position is required to travel to various district locations, and to other locations that require driving
or other forms of transportation.
3. Private office in a tobacco-free environment.
4. Sometimes work under stressful conditions with limited timelines.
5. Employment contingent upon an acceptable background/reference check.
6. Must have reliable transportation to travel within the district and state-wide meetings.


1. Knows the services and resources available to students for emergency and personal counseling,
academic counseling, special needs and disabilities, student activities, and tutoring. Direct
students to appropriate resources, as needed.
2. Understands the Student Rights and Responsibilities, FERPA, Title IX requirements, and
complaint procedures. Maintain files on complaints.

General Administrator Job Responsibilities

1. Model College of Lake County Values at all times.

2. Remain current and knowledgeable of all applicable Board Policy and related procedures.

3. Remain knowledgeable and comply with all federal and state standards, and College Policies and procedures. Assure proper internal controls within all levels of the division or department, establish and utilize monitoring mechanisms and assure regular training of managers/supervisors and staff.

4. Accountable for division/departmental expense processing including procurement of items and services, and accurate payroll and attendance for the division or department. Assure proper internal controls are in place, monitor and train staff.

5. Accountable for maintenance of departmental records per federal, state and College of Lake County standards.

6. Fosters regular clear and consistent communications within division/department; assuring communications are messaged at all levels of the division and/or department.

7. Foster positive employee relations, assuring this is cascaded throughout all levels of managers and supervisors within the division and/or department, and that includes regular employee feedback, recognition and progressive discipline where needed. Assure timely and consistent performance evaluation processes are followed at all levels within the division or department.

8. Support the growth and development of personnel within the division and/or department, assuring this support is cascaded throughout all levels of managers and supervisors within the division/department.

9. Exercise appropriate discretion and judgment; maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and documents. Avoid conflicts of interest. Report issues as they arise.

10. Participate in Shared Governance; serve on institutional level councils, commissions and/or committees. Foster the encouragement of employees at all levels within the division/department to participate in committees, councils, commissions and/or projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: College: Knowledge of college policies, procedures, and practices; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form; ability to perform all essential functions using safe work methods and following safety regulations relating to job; knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a classroom setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, reach; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
