Tenured Associate or Full Professor

Department of Social Medicine, Population, and Public Health


The Department of Social Medicine, Population and Public Health, which is a growing department in the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine, is recruiting a tenure track faculty member at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, with tenure. We seek a highly accomplished scholar with an active research program focused on health equity. The focus on equity can be combined with any number of substantive areas. We are especially interested in outstanding scholars whose research and teaching on equity is combined with a focus on chronic disease, infectious disease, health services delivery, implementation science, behavioral health, environmental health, or social determinants of health.

The successful candidate must possess an M.D., Ph.D, or equivalent degree in anthropology, sociology, psychology, political science, public health, or similar fields. Candidates seeking a joint clinical appointment in one of the School of Medicine's clinical departments (Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Neuroscience, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery) must possess an M.D. or equivalent degree and be eligible to practice in the State of California. Such candidates must be board certified or board eligible. Applicants interested in a clinical appointment must qualify for medical staff privileges at UCR Health and our affiliated hospitals.

The School of Medicine at UCR is the sixth University of California medical school and serves the rapidly growing and dynamic Inland Southern California region by training a much-needed physician workforce and catalyzing innovations in research, education, and health care delivery that will improve the health of medically underserved populations. Deep knowledge and understanding of the diverse populations of Inland Southern California is a preferred qualification.

The School of Medicine is home to the Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR), which is funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. The successful candidate will have opportunities to serve in a leadership role within CHDR. In addition, the School of Medicine is home to the Center for Healthy Communities (CHC), which serves the needs of Inland Southern California's culturally, linguistically and economically diverse communities. The successful candidate will have opportunities to serve in a leadership role within CHC.

The University of California, Riverside is situated in an historic citrus growing area surrounded by mountain ranges. Riverside has a historic downtown with an assortment of dining options and cultural amenities, including the historic Mission Inn. Riverside is about an hour away from ski slopes, beaches, and hiking and sightseeing in mountain or desert environments. Housing in the area is very affordable. There is also easy access to the rich cultural amenities of the greater Los Angeles area.
