DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Forest Health will serve the Tri-County district. The Director will work with the campus community, which includes faculty, administrators, students, and community partners serving the Forest Health sector. The Director will have oversight of ensuring grant outcomes are achieved and provide overall direction of the Forest Health program. Director will work alongside faculty, staff, and administrators affiliated with Forest Health to ensure the success of the program and the students. Director will nurture strong relationships with industry experts to ensure curriculum is aligned with real world application. Director will work with other campus staff in building a strong apprenticeship, work-site learning experience, and overall job placement for students. Director will continue to seek other grant opportunities in the effort of growth and ongoing opportunities for the District in Forest Health Management. This position will have limited supervision. Director is expected to be self-motivated and will supervise other staff.

CLASSIFICATION: Range 40 on the Administrative Confidential Salary Schedule, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work assignment hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

SUPERVISOR: Vice President of Economic Workforce Development or designee

This is a classified administrator position with a default CALPERS retirement.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability
Essential Functions:

  • Assists the Dean in managing Heavy Equipment, Logging, Truck Driving, Natural Resources and Agriculture programs. Other related programs may be assigned.
  • Establishes goals and objectives to align with institutional and Forest Health program goals.
  • Prepares and submits related reports for grant requirements and other related needs.
  • Designs and develops Forest Health programs throughout the year to meet annual objectives.
  • Designs and/or provides input on professional development workshops to increase knowledge and understanding of Forest Health.
  • Provides professional support for staff to build capacity through mentoring, leadership opportunities, and professional development with an emphasis on Forest Health, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Supports faculty and staff.
  • Establishes goals and objectives to align with system-wide goals on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • In consultation with the Forest Health advisory committee, coordinates and facilitates employee training programs through the Business Training Center.
  • Advises faculty on curriculum updates which are aligned with industry standards.
  • Develops and monitors an assigned budget; prepares year-end expenditure and activities report for assigned finds.
  • Works with industry partners to ensure students are exposed to job employment opportunities. These include but are not limited to internships, work-site learning, work based learning, and paid employment opportunities.
  • Works with four year institutions focused on Forest Health in providing transfer ready students.
  • Develops pathway opportunities for students by working with local high schools.
  • Works with North Far North region in regionalizing best practices and/or building pathways from neighboring colleges into Forest Health programs.
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.

  • Current challenges and opportunities within the Forest Health Sector.

Experience/Education
Education Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Forestry, Natural Resources preferred or any other related field.
Experience Required:
  • At least two years of increasingly responsible experience related to Forest Health sector.
  • Demonstrated progressively responsible and successful experience in Forest Health promotion activities.
  • Demonstrated recent successful experience manager preferably in a college setting.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, as well as staff members and students with physical and/or learning disabilities.

New Administrative Appointments will be placed at the step 1 on the Administrative Salary Schedule and will graduate to the next step on July 1st of the following year if they have rendered 6 months of satisfactory service, with subsequent steps annually thereafter to a maximum fifth step.

Salary placement would only be negotiable if the candidate held the same position with another community college and step 2 or 3 would be the maximum considered depending on the number of years of service.
