Detailed Job Description
The College of Health Sciences and Technology (CHST) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is initiating an Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Program and invites applications and nominations for the full-time, 12-month, tenure-track or non-tenure track position of Program Director and an academic rank commensurate with experience in teaching and scholarship at the Associate Professor level or higher, or Professor of Practice (non-tenure track). The OTD program will be housed in the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition, joining the Nutritional Sciences and Exercise Science undergraduate programs, and graduate programs in Dietetics and Nutrition and Health and Well-being Management. The program is planned to meet Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) accreditation requirements.

The Director of the OTD Program is responsible for developing and implementing the program, attaining and maintaining ACOTE accreditation. This includes curriculum planning and development, designing and management of facility resources, recruiting and hiring faculty and staff and working on the Application for Candidacy. Excellence in teaching and scholarship activities is expected in addition to program leadership and the detailed management of clinical experiences and student progress required to retain ACOTE accreditation. Confidence of incorporating technology into occupational therapy to establish the OTD program that addresses the current and emerging issues of occupational therapy as an expanding discipline is expected. Experience with college pedagogical methods including online course delivery is anticipated. As the Director of a new program, significant collaboration with university offices and involvement in enhancing program visibility and student recruitment and retention are expected.

Department/College Description
RITs College of Health Sciences and Technology is poised to transform the quality, safety, and affordability of health care. By combining technology and medicine, the college seeks to educate 21st-century healthcare professionals, develop new patient-focused programs and systems, effectively assess community needs, and develop and apply innovative healthcare delivery practice. The College of Health Sciences and Technology will build on a foundation of liberal arts and basic sciences. Students will gain advanced knowledge in theoretical science and practical applications in experiential learning environments. These experiences will prepare students to serve humanity as practitioners, scientists, and leaders through their contribution to, and the provision of, high-quality patient care, healthcare service, and/or applied translational biomedical research.

Envisioned as an opportunity to develop new approaches to better enable and prepare healthcare practitioners to take advantage of the future of technology embedded care and support, the College of Health Sciences and Technology consists of 3 academic units: the Department of Clinical Health Professions, the Department of Medical Sciences, Health and Management, and the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition and offers BS degrees in Biomedical Sciences, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Exercise Science, Nutritional Sciences, and Physician Assistant (BS/MS) and graduate degrees in Dietetics and Nutrition (MS), Health Systems Management (MS), Health and Well-Being Management (MS), Medical Illustration (MFA) and a PhD internship program in Clinical Psychology. Rochester Institute of Technology has an affiliation with Rochester Regional Health. The program director will be the liaison with Rochester Regional Health to manage the program and for collaborations in teaching, research, and clinical practice.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Academic doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc, and OT, or OTD)
  • Licensed or eligible for occupational therapy licensure in New York state;
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy accreditation criteria from ACOTE and state agency regulations;
  • Administrative experience related to program planning, implementation, assessment, and management, preferably an OTD program;
  • Demonstrated competence with fiscal and facility planning, personnel recruitment and management, arranging and monitoring clinical collaborations including related contractual negotiations;
  • A record of excellent teaching skills in a higher education;
  • Scholarship/research/publication experience and record appropriate for appointed academic rank;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills to apply to inter-professional education development;
  • Commitment to diversity and equity practices in all aspects of the OTD program.
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the colleges continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
