Job Summary:
The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Office of Medical Education (OME) is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to join our Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office as the Program Director of Operations & Strategy. In this full-time University Staff role, you will serve as a key advisor and collaborator to senior leadership, driving operational excellence and supporting strategic initiatives across the GME enterprise.
This position oversees administrative operations and strategic initiatives, serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership. The Director collaborates across departments and affiliate institutions to ensure alignment with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements. As a key member of the GME leadership team, this role plays a pivotal part in advancing operational strategy and driving the future of graduate medical education at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Supervision Received: This position reports directly to the OME Associate Dean of Medical Education and Strategy and has a dotted reporting to the Associate Dean of GME. The position works closely with the OME Director for Finance and Administration.
Supervisions Exercised: This position will directly supervise four (4) or more exempt professionals and a team of eleven (11) or more exempt professionals. Additionally, the position will have functional reporting for the Resident Mental Health Center Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Initiatives Support
- Collaborates with GME and OME leadership to develop and implement short- and long-term strategic plans, including program growth projections and advancement of key institutional priorities.
- Leads high-impact initiatives such as dashboard development, resident well-being programs, chief resident training, operations process re-engineering, and data system enhancements to support GME goals and operations.
- Drives continuous improvement of operational processes by identifying efficiencies, reducing costs, and designing business workflows that support system implementation and strategic execution.
- Operations Management and Event Planning
- Oversees operational compliance, space planning, and policy adherence across GME, ensuring alignment with institutional, affiliate, and regulatory requirements.
- Leads coordination of internal and external reporting, surveys, agreements, and onboarding processes in collaboration with OME leadership, and both internal and external partners.
- Directs planning and execution of large-scale GME events and training programs, including leadership retreats, orientations, and professional development initiatives.
- Serves as a strategic partner to the Associate Dean, escalating issues, advising on solutions, and supporting cross-functional operational initiatives.
- Manages GME marketing and communications strategy, overseeing messaging to stakeholders and enhancing web presence, digital outreach, and promotional materials.
System Operations
- Oversees GME data systems including MedHub, Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), and National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) ensuring data accuracy, quality control, and effective onboarding processes.
- Manages resident recruitment operations through ERAS and NRMP, coordinating with OME business services for appointments and processing.
- Develops institutional analytics and reporting from recruitment data, implementing system enhancements to improve efficiency and accessibility.
- Creates and maintains standard operating procedures for system use and data reporting and provides support for Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and billing inquiries related to MedHub.
Accreditation and Compliance Management
- Provide oversight of GME compliance with ACGME accreditation, institutional policies, and state/federal employment regulations, including review and approval of reports and site agreements.
- Conduct annual and ongoing reviews of GME policies and procedures to ensure institutional and program-level compliance.
Management of Operational Staff
- Leads and manages a team of operational staff across key functional areas including compliance, accreditation, communications, data systems, events, and strategic initiatives while overseeing staffing strategy, performance management, and professional development to support long-term organizational effectiveness and growth.
Work Location:
Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings. Additional on-site days may be required as needed. Please see the campus-wide policy for additional information.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, operational engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of six (6) years of business operations experience and administration, which may include concurrent experience of at least five (5) years of personnel management and policy implementation.
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A master's degree in business administration, operations management, operational engineering or closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- Ten (10) or more years of executive business operations experience covering multiple aspects of an organization including: data management, supervision, marketing, communications, and administration.
- Five (5) or more years of experience developing infrastructure, policies, procedures, and staff training.
- Demonstrated experience (5 years) in Graduate Medical Education administration and operations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and mentoring a diverse cross-section of people and responsibilities.
- Broad-based general management experience with an extensive background in administration or operations.
- Working knowledge of financial and business practices and procedures.
- Effective presentation and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Elevated level of communication and relationship skills
- The ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with faculty and staff based on mutual trust and respect.
- Strong commitment to a team approach and the ability to mentor other staff.
- Demonstrated skill in effectively communicating information, motivating project teams, and ensuring the successful completion of departmental goals.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as
- $84,816 - $107,886.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
