Job Description
This position serves as the go-to systems expert for the Tickle College of Engineering (TCE), providing direct IT support for the Office of the Dean, six administrative offices, nine program offices, and the departments of Applied Engineering (APPE), Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), and Nuclear Engineering (NE)-supporting approximately 422 faculty, staff, and graduate students. The position delivers technical leadership under four Service Level Agreements (SLAs), managing day-to-day operations, long-term planning, and project implementation across a wide range of computing systems and environments.
This position is responsible for managing desktop, laptop, and server systems using Microsoft Active Directory and Intune, administering license servers for specialized engineering software, and coordinating with vendors and internal staff to ensure reliable access to academic and research tools. It enforces IT security standards, monitors system health and compliance, and provides advanced technical support for computer systems, lab equipment, and AV technology in classrooms and conference spaces. Additional duties include resolving hardware and software issues, delivering user training, creating technical documentation, managing IT asset inventory and procurement, and supporting general departmental operations.
Responsibilities
- Administer desktops, laptops, and servers across multiple departments using Active Directory and Intune.
- Maintain and support license servers hosting specialized engineering software.
- Coordinate software deployment and updates for labs in collaboration with vendors and internal staff.
- Enforce IT security best practices and compliance requirements.
- Lead and implement strategic IT projects that align with the college's IT plan.
- Troubleshoot software and hardware issues including lab equipment and infrastructure components.
- Support and maintain AV technology in classrooms and conference spaces.
- Deliver user training, create IT documentation, and maintain procedural guides.
- Manage the acquisition, inventory, and lifecycle of IT assets.
- Coordinate hardware maintenance, surplus, and vendor repairs.
- Provide administrative support for IT operations as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or related IT field with a focus on software and hardware.
Experience:
- 2-3 years of experience administering computer connected lab equipment and/or servers.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a computer hardware and software technical environment.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience working in an academic environment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Intune.
- Ability to manage departmental and college license servers including facilitating the renewal process.
- Ability to manage departmental and college computers connected to lab equipment.
- Skills in individual and team project management.
- Ability to prioritize life cycle recommendations based on user and equipment needs.
- Knowledge of Windows system administration procedures and practices including configuring and securing servers, desktops and laptops.
- Ability to perform software maintenance for servers, desktops and laptops with minimal disruption to the user.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with faculty and staff to suggest technical solutions to problems.
- Knowledge of both broad and specific technical areas to understand how one technical area affects the other.
- Ability to manage departmental and college assets to ensure faculty and staff have the required equipment to perform their job.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
- Certification: Microsoft or Security+ certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+)
Experience:
- Junior-level Microsoft Azure cloud computing services.
- Junior-level Microsoft InTune and Endpoint Management
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Skills in using a ticketing system to queue and process work.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware components to resolve equipment issues.
- Knowledge of virtual machine technologies such as Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Ability to train faculty and staff on current technologies pertaining to their job.
- Skills in technical documentation.

The Tickle College of Engineering is in the midst of an unprecedented period of growth and success including adding over 30 new faculty as part of ambitious cluster hiring campaigns led by Chancellor Donde Plowman and Dean Matthew Mench.
