Position Summary
Boston Medical Center (BMC) seeks an accomplished, visionary endocrinologist to serve as Thyroid Medical Director within the Section of Endocrinology. The Director will provide clinical leadership, programmatic development, and academic oversight for the comprehensive management of thyroid disease, including thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and related endocrine disorders. This role combines excellence in patient care with opportunities for research, teaching, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Provide expert clinical care in the evaluation and management of thyroid disorders.
- Develop, implement, and oversee evidence-based clinical pathways, quality standards, and safety protocols for thyroid care.
- Collaborate with surgery, radiology, oncology, pathology, and primary care to ensure coordinated, multidisciplinary thyroid care.
- Lead the development of advanced services such as management of hyperthyroidism including radioactive iodine therapy, thyroid nodule clinics, thyroid and parathyroid ultrasound exams, ultrasound-guided FNA procedures, and thyroid cancer therapies including radioactive iodine therapy and follow-up programs.
Program Development & Administration
- Establish and grow a comprehensive thyroid program at BMC with a focus on accessibility, innovation, and high-value care.
- Oversee operational aspects of thyroid-related clinical services, including efficiency, scheduling, patient flow, and resource utilization.
- Monitor performance metrics and implement quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and faculty recruitment relevant to thyroid care.
Education & Mentorship
- Teach and mentor medical students, residents, endocrine fellows, and allied health professionals.
- Develop educational resources and training opportunities in thyroid disease for the BMC/BU medical community.
- Promote faculty development in thyroid-focused clinical and academic activities.
- Organize and supervise monthly clinical and academic conferences for thyroid ultrasound/cytology and Thyroid/Endocrine Tumor Board.
Research & Scholarship
- Encourage and support clinical, translational, or health-services research in thyroid disease.
- Collaborate with Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine faculty on thyroid-related research initiatives.
- Disseminate findings through publications, presentations, and academic forums.
Required Skills
Qualifications
- MD, must be board eligible/board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.
- Must be eligibility for licensure in Massachusetts.
- Significant expertise in thyroid disease, including clinical management, thyroid ultrasound, radioactive iodine therapies, and FNA preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in program development, quality improvement, or clinical administration.
- Academic record suitable for appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.
